This article in today's yahoo news[link] got me to thinking seriously about the future of my kids and what I and my husband need to do to survive this new tech world.

Unfortunately, the comments below the article were the exact opposite of my reaction and is the symptom of why we're not moving forward as a society.  Too many people keep wanting to go back to the way things were but that's never going to happen.

People!  Instead of whining about how low-level jobs are gone or going, get ahead of the wave of tech instead and figure out what you can do to be a part of it.

I know it's common for people in older generations to be afraid of tech but that's only because they don't get educated on how to use it (like cell/smartphones, computers, software, apps, social networking, blogging, etc). Many of those whiners I spoke of are indeed afraid of tech, thinking it is the reason the job world is getting away from them and it is, but part of their problem is failing to use that technology to fit back in.  They can't stop tech so they need to learn to use it properly so they're not so intimidated by it nor left behind.

I'm not speaking of GETTING tech jobs....only learning HOW to use tech to better their lives.  For many young people that's a given as they jump on the tech wagon early on in life but the older generation are the whiners here and they are the ones that need to become proactive and get back into the world.  Tech is here to stay....deal with it!!  Because of their reluctance to learn how to use the simplest tech...like the computer/Ipods/smartphone.....to using twitter/blogs/facebook, they lose out on job offerings, what the stock market is doing, where's the best places to live are, retirement needs, ...etc.

Some good examples of what failing to learn tech can cause:  My mother is trying to sell her home in a remote area but she doesn't use a computer and is relying on an incompetent realtor who hasn't use technology in the best way to sell it so her home remains largely unseen.  Another example is myself:  I don't want to work out of my home, I'm retired and only need a small income to add to our household funds to pay off bills.  My lack of knowledge with blogging/twitter/facebook/smart phones and apps shuts me out of a newly emerging job market that's filling the loss of jobs out there.

Some jobs I discovered are:  Gigwalk - gigwalk.com/ and others .... check this article www.blasho.com/make-money-with…. Amazon is hiring computer users to do the grunt work they need done and so are many other internet giants.  In some (like Gigwalk) you can make a lot of regular income and get exercise, while in others you can work part or full time at home.

So my point in a nutshell is this:  Stop missing out on the world.  Get tech educated so you'll be connected not disconnected.  The article made me realize that I need to stop going 'woe is me' or 'I can't figure out this bleeping thing' and get back to school to figure it out instead.  Yes, I know going to school is expensive but unfortunately it's the only place to learn it properly if you're like me and can't make sense of the instruction booklets that come with this stuff.  So by whatever means necessary, I will find a way to take some courses in these subjects.  It's not really necessary to take a degree or anything....an extended learning course offered by most colleges is much more affordable.  However, for other jobs,  some kind of more formal schooling (on-line, community college, university, or tech) would be necessary.

Going back to the way things were is simply not an option as we all love our tech and are loathe to give it up.  So move forward and catch the wave before it slams down on you.  Only you can change your own future and only you can decide what you have to do to accomplish it.

Stop whining and get learning! That's the only weapon we have left to beat the rapidly changing face of our world.
Just something that struck a chord with me and changed my outlook on where to go from here for me and my family.

I'm sorry, you both missed the point which means I didn't convey it properly. I'll redo a section of my piece to clarify what I was getting at. Please reread.
